Did you miss me last week? I have to apologize. I simply could not get a "thought" out to you, I was suffering from an extreme case of Writer's Block! I've had several good ideas come to me lately, but as luck would have it--I failed to write them down, and naturally they vanished. I even started a "thought" last week, got halfway through it, stopped because I didn't think it was flowing and then I showed it to my friend and co-worker Jean. She read it, looked up at me and said (with a very concerned look on her face) "You're not going to send that out, are you?" Bottom line: No thought last week.
But this week, I want to talk to you about the bathroom. Most of you know I have kids. For those of you that have children of your own, you know how precious any time by yourself can be...even if it is only the time you spend in the bathroom! One of the most amazing things about children is their ability to zero in on where Mom is anywhere in the house at any given moment--regardless of whether or not they saw her walk into (or out of) a particular room. Case in point: last week my parents came to visit. As I prepared the upstairs guest bedroom, I needed to change the sheets and check the bathroom linen closet. All of my children were occupied with Wii or computer or various other activities. To my knowledge not one of them saw me walk into that room, but as soon as I closed the bathroom door (the linen closet is behind the door) I hear this "tap, tap, tap. Mom, are you in there?" I had to laugh. It also made me think about my kids' radar on me. They seem to know where I am all the time. Kinda like Someone else I know...
Go with me to the book of Psalm. We haven't spent much time here, so this may be new for some of us, but trust me, you will enjoy this. "O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways." Psalm 139:1,3 "Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there." Psalm 139:7-8 Talk about a radar! God has more than a radar on us, He's got our heartbeat in His hand. He knows everything about us. I encourage y'all to read Psalm 139 in its entirety. It isn't that long, and it's full of wonderful reassurances. Have you ever had one of those days when you lock yourself in the bathroom? You just need to take a minute from your co-workers, or your kids or your parents or even your spouse? You need that "alone time". Guess what, God goes with you into that bathroom. While you sit on the floor, banging your sweet head against the wall (figuratively or literally), He's sitting there right beside you. Why? Because, He knows when you sit and when you rise; and He perceives even your thoughts--He loves you that much! (That was Psalm 139:2 paraphrased)
Girls, let me tell you something: God is in this thing for the long haul. You can't scare Him off. You can't shake Him. He won't let go. He's the Shadow that will never leave your side, even in a downpour. He loves us so much that He sent His one and only Son to die on a Cross, so that in Jesus' resurrection, His Holy Spirit would be with each of us forever. So that in Him, we would never have to be alone. Even in the bathroom, checking on towels or checking on our sanity. "Tap, tap, tap...Are you in there?" You're never alone. God is with you always. Have a blessed week.
"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified...for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." Deuteronomy 31:6
"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made..." Psalm 139:13-14
Dallas - That is exactly what I needed to hear. I am going to read Psalm 139 today!
